I do a lot of banking online, and shopping, and sociaizing. I regularly download music, stream videos, and send/recieve emails with friends and companies. Ive been using a free version of McAfee Antivirus Plus 2011 3-User but you get what you…in this case….dont pay for. It didnt protect me the way I needed to be protected.

I needed software that scanned as I was surfing the web, anticipating the pages I was going to, finding the nasties before I clicked and was burned. I wanted a good identity protection, because after everything is said and done THAT is what I was most worried about doing my banking online. Its such a risk to put your information out there knowing that there are threats waiting to snatch your identity and they get more and more sneaky by the minute.

AVG protects me from all of that PLUS goes the extra little bit , and shuts down if there is a threat. It also has free automatic updates and its easy to use.

Like other users I am disappointed that if something did go wrong, to talk to a support person over the phone will cost you.

I’ve used avg, both free and paid, for years. While it has given me some problems time to time, I’ve been fairly satisfied. In the last month, I’ve had 2 total system crashes, which I’ve traced to avg updates. After contacting tech support at my computer manufacturer, microsoft, and finally AVG, I was unable to restore my system in any manner except to re install Windows 7. (yes, I tried creating an “avg rescue disk”, it did nothing. And this was not the free version! If you decide to buy this product, make sure they’ve settled their problems.

I’m a huge fan of AVG’s free version of this security software. I was so happy that I decided to go for the upgrade and get all the benefits that the free version does not offer. I was pleasantly surprised at all the great features and I’m very happy with the results!

So why choose the paid version over the free one? The enhanced security features with real time protection tops the list. Another plus is the online shield for more secure shopping and banking transactions. I love the added protection provided for your network as well as the newer “Cloud” technology. There is also customizations available for features like e-mail, browsing, etc. I think the price is worth the upgrades provided.

This software works on up to three computers (there’s a cheaper option for just 1 computer / Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware 1PC/2Yr [Download]) and provides free automatic updates through 2011. The software was super easy to install on Windows 7 and Windows XP. I love the real time protection it provides while browsing and avoiding harmful sites or hanging out on a social network (Facebook issues comes to mind). A huge plus is the fact that although it’s always running in the background, it does not slow down my computer too much like others (Norton for one). The addition of a “auto fix” button for simple issues is a welcomed feature. The software is easy to navigate and use. You can use one-click or configure more detailed options, depending on your tech ability. The ease for beginners and available tweaking for more experienced users is a nice touch.

I like to use more then one security system on my pc – my thought being that there are too many viruses, etc. out there for any one to work perfectly. Between the two I use (this AVG Internet security 2011 & free Glary Utilities), I am comfortable with my online security. If I had to go with just one product, I would recommend this one for the wide range and real time protection it provides.

The only drawback is the customer service. The only free option for technical support is e-mail. If you want to talk to someone, that will cost you. I understand that this is the way of modern economics but usually a 30 day period for total customer service is provided at the very least. A 1/2 point was deducted for this reason.
